Advocacy and awareness creation
Advocacy initiatives form the core of Business and Human Rights Tanzania's (BHRT) mission. BHRT is committed to promoting good governance and advocating for legal and policy reforms that enhance accountability and uphold international human rights standards. A key component of this advocacy program involves corporate responsibility to safeguard human rights per international standards. This necessitates robust governance mechanisms that hold both corporations and governments accountable for their responsibility to protect human rights within the business environment. Comprehensive legal frameworks and enforcement bodies must be established and operationalized to effectively address and prevent human rights violations in the corporate sector.
The advocacy programs are designed to disseminate key findings and analyses, deliver training sessions, and raise awareness about relevant laws, policies, guidelines, and best practices concerning natural resource governance. Stakeholders engaged include local communities, corporate entities, and the government.
BHRT's advocacy encompasses a comprehensive range of activities to ensure that businesses uphold human rights and mitigate adverse impacts associated with their operations. This includes generating awareness, fostering compliance, and seeking legal redress for human rights violations tied to business practices.
The overarching goal of advocacy in this domain is to empower communities, influence corporate behavior, and reinforce adherence to international human rights standards within business practices.
Further, the Business and Human Rights Tanzania (BHRT) advocates for the development and implementation of human rights policies and regulations pertinent to business operations, ensuring that companies are held accountable for their human rights impacts while strengthening the legal and regulatory frameworks designed to protect human rights in the business arena. Furthermore, BHRT utilizes a data-driven approach to engage with government entities, businesses, civil society organizations, and key stakeholders to support communities adversely affected by business-related human rights violations.
